Frequently asked Questions
Can we start or finish our tour from Ayres Rock airport?
Yes! The itinerary can be adjusted to start or finish the tour at Connellan airport (this is the airport near Ayres Rock). However, it is not possible to both start AND finish the tour at the Ayres Rock.
Do we see Mt Conner?
Yes! We will see Mt Conner from the Lasseter Hwy. There are many things that we have not exactly detailed within the itineraries online (we do like to keep some surprises). If however, you have something specific in mind that you would like to do or see in the area, then please let us know, because the itinerary we have online can be altered to suit; this may alter the cost of the tour for the group; it just depends on the changes.
We already have travel plans, can we use our own itinerary?
Yes! If you have certain criteria and requirements for your excursion we can accommodate your plans. We can also offer suggestions for the best possible outcome for your group. Often people underestimate the distances to be traveled from site to site, so we may have some suggestions for traveler comfort.
What is the weather like in Alice Springs?
For about 90% of the year we have a lovely blue sky, however our temperature does have a great variance. In Summer (October-April) the temperature is between 15-20°C at night and temperatures are usually over 30°C and can reach 40°C (or more!) during the day. In our Winter months (May-September) it is quite a bit cooler, usually below 10°C at night, (in June and July it can get very cold, often below zero at night). During the daytime in winter the temperature is usually between 20-25°C.
Where do we stay?
We sleep in swags (or tents if weather permits) in a camping atmosphere every night during the tour. We spend one night at Yalara campground (near Uluru), four nights at the Lilla Aboriginal Community in our own camping area and one night at the camp grounds at Glen Helen Resort. If you have any additional nights before or after the tour to stay in Alice Springs or Yalara we are happy to recommend or book this for you.
What is a swag?
A swag is a waterproof bedroll. In the 19th century a swagman was a nomadic rural worker - who carried their bedroll 'swag' with their belongings wrapped in them on their back. Our swags however are only used for bedding, and are made from authentic canvas – very snuggly and comfortable. You pop your sleeping bag inside, jump in and just enjoy the blanket of stars.
Do you cater for vegetarians?
Yes! Please indicate this on the relevant forms (see Pre-Departure Pack). Other dietary requirements can also be catered for, however if they are unusual please contact reception for clarification.
How many students (and teachers) can go on tour?
Our buses have 22 seats (not including the driver’s seat). Having a group around this size is very comfortable. We do cater for larger group sizes too, we also have a Nissan Patrol 4x4 which can tag along (seats six PAX), and other buses available. We prefer to have groups around 22-28 Passengers as the groups benefit more when in smaller groups. We also have a 48 seater coach available for the larger groups.

How do we get to Alice Springs?
If you prefer to fly to Alice Springs, there are three airlines that offer services; Qantas, Tiger Airways, and Virgin (depending on your departure point). Otherwise, (subject to the departure location) Remote Tours can bring the bus to you and the journey to Alice Springs can be part of the excursion. We have done this in the past, for many schools from Adelaide and Melbourne. If you take this option, please remember the travel time will cut into the Central Australia section of the tour, unless you can extend your allocated travel days.
